`Evaluation
Journey
The first thing we did was to get our assignment brief. We read through it all and it said we had to create a 1-minute film about something associated with 'Journey'. We then had to write large paragraphs on 3 different ideas we could use including what angles we would use and lighting.
Storyboards
Next we had to create a storyboard for each of our ideas, included what shots we would use and explaining what each scene would include and using images off the internet. I did a storyboard for each of my ideas, 'plant life', 'travelling to college' and 'cheesecake'.
Treatment
Third task was to write out a treatment for our chosen idea, this included each persons assigned job, what tv slot it would be, what time it would be on and how it why people would like it.
Shot List
I did two kinds of shot lists. One was for research and I went on the internet to look up lots of different shot types. The second one I did was a list of all the different shot types I would use in my cheesecake film.
Filming
Filming it went quite well, mainly because of the amount of planning that went into it. It took approximately an hour and a half. We took our time and left 5 seconds at the beginning and end of each shot to make sure we got it all. Certain parts of the procedure slowed us down such as waiting for it to cook. But luckily enough it turned out well and was quite enjoyable.
Editing
I was surprised with how much I enjoyed editing it, seeing as it was the part I was dreading the most. I thought the program looked quite scary but once I got the hang of it, it was quite easy. I cropped down all of the shots and even got rid of some bits I didn't need. Then I added a song to it whilst fading out the beginning and end and adding my logo to the beginning of the film. I look forward to editing on Adobe Premier Pro again.

Monday 17th September
This was the very first induction lesson. We covered looking at different shot types and how each individual one is used. We looked at different types of video cameras and how to use each one and what the advantages and disadvantages are. We then created a blog to do weekly session posts, research notes and to post work for Andrew to see.
Monday 24th September
We could not attend this class as our group was scheduled to go to a motivational speech by Jack Black at Cineworld. This lasted from 9am-4pm.
Monday 1st November
I did not attend this lesson, however the rest of the group used cameras for the first time and recored Burton Statutes outside of college.

List
EWS
(extreme wide shot): The view is so far from the subject that it isn’t even
visible. Often used as an establishing shot.
VWS
(very wide shot): The subject is barely visible, but the emphasis is still on the
environment.
WS
(wide shot): This is when a subject takes up half the frame or as much as
comfortably possible.
We would use this shot to show all of the ingredients.
We would use this shot to show all of the ingredients.
MS
(mid shot): Shows some of the subject in more detail while still giving an
impression of the whole subject.
I would use this to show different parts of the cake.
MCU
(medium close up): Half way between a MS and a CU.
This would be used for most of the shots as you would just be able to see enough with still having detail.

Storyboard of my break at college
This idea of a 1 minute video would mostly be filmed in first person. I would change angles and sometimes film my feet to show me walking around.
During my break, I got to the shop so I would show me going there and buying things, filming the cashier so it feels like you're there.
I would occasionally change the camera angles a lot to make it more interesting. Sometimes I would show what I'm seeing and who I'm talking to and sometimes I would film it so that you could see it from somebody else's point of view.
The final scene would be me sitting down at my college table after my break.
storyboard for cheesecake

This is how my cheesecake journey will begin - by showing all of the ingredients one by one but in fast forward so that it doesn't get too boring. We will also show how it is created and what is mixed together.
The next scene will show the completed and decorated cheesecake and show it being boxed up. The angles will very to show everyone what it looks like and there will be fun music playing during the entire video.
The next bit will show the cake being taken out of the box and placed behind some glass in a bakery waiting to be sold. The lighting will be very clear.
The final scene shows somebody coming in and buying the cheesecake. We watch it as is gets boxed up and they take it home. Then the buyer will slowly slice down the middle of the cake and chooses a piece to eat. The final bit we see is the cake being eaten.
storyboard of plant life
This is how I want my ‘Plant Life’ idea
to begin. It starts off with it ‘being born’ by being planted, covered and
watered. This will show how much the plant has grown when you see it later.
This is my next scene which shows it
growing more and looking healthy. It will show it being watered and using the
sunlight as the lighting for all of these scenes.

This will
show how much the plant has grown and how healthy it looks. This is the adult
life of the plant when it is at its best. The camera angles will vary from high
to low to a 360 shot to show all of the plant in detail.
This shows that the plant has finished
its healthiest part and is slowly dieing. The lighting will be changed
by using a very cloudy miserable day to add the effect of sadness. It is then replaced by a new seed.
Treatment
Treatment
Film title: The journey of a Cheesecake
Crew: There are 3 people in my group who will be helping
me create this. The two other people are Tessa Vernon and Tayla Montague, we
have yet to decide who is assigned to which job.
Duration: This video will last 1 minute max.
Audience: Our audience will be anybody who is interested
in how to create a cake and mainly for ages 10+. Can be watched by families or
used as a step-by-step recipe. It would work best on a cooking channel and should
be on in the day.
What it’s about: The 1 minute video will show and
explain how a cake is created starting from when it is still in the ingredients
bags/boxes up until the point of it being served in a bakery and ate. It would
work well on the television because parents might be interested in using a
quick step-by-step guide for a simple cake.
Suggested elements: It will be filmed and edited in a
way to keep the audience interested. It will have added music and certain areas
will be in fast forward if it is boring. Interesting people would be used to
keep the audience gripped. Bakers would be used to create the cake and make
everything look simple. The video will be very fun and lively. It is unusual as
it treats the cake as if it is alive and shows the life and death of it.
Shooting days: It will not take too long to shoot this
as it is quite simple. It will take approximately 2 days to film the cake in
the making and 2 days to shoot in a bakery. It is a low budget video.

Initial Ideas #1
My first idea was to show the journey of plant life. It
would start with filming a packet of seeds and showing what they are called and
how they will look. The second shot would be from above looking at the pot of
soil and digging a hole to place the seed into. The camera angle will stay
looking down into the pot and see the seed being placed, covered and watered.
All shots of it growing will be taken at medium high angle so that you can see
enough of the growth and how tall it is. This will continue on a daily basis as
the plant starts to grow. It will be taken from the same angle to show the
height of it increasing. The lighting will be sunlight, to show it is getting
the nutrition it needs to be healthy. Once it has grown quite a lot, the camera
will move in a circular movement around the flower to show how beautiful it has
become, then show a before and after fade in to show the difference. We will
then film it on a miserable cloudy day, we will film the sky looking rainy and
then the flower not getting any sunlight and day by day film the flower slowly
drooping until is has crumbled and died. The camera angle will then zoom in on
the withered flower and then slowly zoom out. It will end by showing it being
dug out and replaced with a new seed.
Initial Ideas #2
My second and favourite idea was to show the journey of
a cheese cake. It would start by lining up all of the ingredients on a table
and setting the camera on the table in front of the first ingredient and then
will slide across the table showing each individual ingredient. Then the camera
will focus on the bowl and show everything being put in and mixed. The camera
angles will vary whilst showing things being mixed and poured into a cake tray.
Then the camera will focus on a clock and say “30 mins later” (this will later
be edited so the minute hand goes round quickly) and then show it coming out of
the oven. The camera will then record all of the decorating tubes and tubs we
will be using and show it being decorated in fast forward to make sure nobody
gets bored watching it. It will then
show the cake all decorated and being boxed up and being placed behind some
glass in a bakery. The camera will then film somebody coming in, looking behind
the glass and choosing it. It’ll then get boxed up again and paid for and it’ll
be filmed from behind close up to the box watching it being taken down the
street and placed on a plate and go in slow motion as a knife cuts down the
centre. The last scene will be of a chunk on the end of a fork, being placed
into someone’s mouth.
Initial Idea #3.
My third idea was to film the journey of getting to
college and back. I would film how dark it is when I wake up and film walking
to the bus stop. I would vary the shots and angles by sometimes filming my feet
or filming behind me. I would film
different things such as my walk to the shops and filming all the stuff I could
buy and what I choose. I would film me leaving the shop and going round
town before heading back for class. The lighting would almost always be using
daylight. I will show who is watching what I do at dinner and give a tour of
Burton. I will also add music to it to make it more interesting. I would speed
up certain bits and slow it down to keep
viewers intrigued.
